Vauxhall GAP Insurance

Vauxhall has been on British driveways for over a century, and a Corsa or Astra still loses value the moment it leaves the forecourt. Vauxhall GAP insurance, arranged by Insureworks and underwritten by specialist insurers, may help reduce the financial impact of that depreciation.

Vauxhall GAP Insurance Explained

  • May help protect the price you paid for your Vauxhall, rather than what it is worth on the day of a claim.

  • Available on Vauxhall cars up to ten years old, bought within the last 180 days, priced from £5,000.

  • Cash, PCP, hire purchase or lease. Cover may be arranged whichever route you took to the keys.

  • Once a Vauxhall GAP claim is accepted, settlement follows the policy terms and the insurer's process.

Vauxhall Models Our Insurers Can Cover

Vauxhall has built cars for British roads since 1903, and most of us have driven one at some point. Our insurers can offer Vauxhall GAP insurance across the range, from Corsa and Astra hatchbacks to Mokka and Grandland SUVs and the fully electric models. Whether you paid in full, chose PCP, signed a lease agreement or found a used Vauxhall with a few miles already behind it, we can help you compare cover.

GAP insurance doesn’t care if you’re leasing. We can still arrange cover. A write-off could leave you with more than an empty driveway. If you’re comparing Vauxhall GAP coverage lease options, our insurers may be able to help cover the shortfall between your motor insurance payout and the amount still due under your lease agreement. No sign of your model below? Vauxhall has built far too many cars to squeeze every last one into five boxes. We’ve picked out the names most familiar to UK drivers, but our insurers may cover plenty of others, subject to the policy terms and eligibility criteria.

Vauxhall Corsa, Adam

Small hatchbacks that have taught half the country to drive. First cars, city runabouts and sensible second cars.

Vauxhall Astra, Insignia

Family hatchbacks, estates and saloons built for school runs, commutes and the sort of mileage that adds up quietly.

Vauxhall Mokka, Crossland, Frontera

Compact SUVs for drivers who wanted a Corsa but fancied sitting higher up. Popular on PCP, and quick to lose value early.

Vauxhall Grandland, Zafira

Larger SUVs and people carriers for full boots, longer journeys and families who genuinely use every seat.

Vauxhall Corsa Electric, Astra Electric, Mokka Electric

Vauxhall's fully electric range, wearing familiar badges with the engine noise taken out.

Choose The Right Vauxhall GAP Insurance For You

Whether your Vauxhall is a brand-new Grandland or a Corsa that has already survived a few school runs, our insurance providers may have an RTI GAP option available. Following an accepted total-loss claim, it could help reduce the financial difference between your motor insurer’s settlement and the original invoice price, subject to the policy terms and claim limit. Which policy suits you depends on how you bought your Vauxhall.

New & Used

New car smell, or already earning its keep?

Depreciation affects new and used cars alike, so GAP could help protect the price you paid. Cover is available on vehicles up to ten years old, bought within the last 180 days, priced from £5,000.

Petrol & Diesel

Still doing the miles on petrol or diesel?

GAP could help reduce the financial impact if an eligible vehicle is written off or stolen, subject to the policy terms and the claim limit shown in your schedule. Petrol and diesel Vauxhalls are rated non-prestige.

Hybrids

A bit of both, very sensible.

For hybrid versions of models such as the Astra and Grandland, Vauxhall GAP insurance could help protect the eligible invoice price paid for the vehicle, subject to the terms and limits set out in your policy.

Fully Electric

Quiet, quick, and quietly depreciating.

GAP could help cover an eligible difference between your insurer's settlement and the original invoice price. On PCP and cash purchases, electric vehicles are covered up to a £50,000 price. Lease and contract hire have no such restriction.

GAP Insurance for Vauxhall

Vauxhall has spent more than a century building cars that ordinary drivers actually buy, from the Corsa that taught a generation to drive to the Grandland doing the modern school run. What every one of them shares is depreciation. A Vauxhall bought new can be worth noticeably less within a year, and a standard motor policy pays the market value on the day of the claim rather than the price on the invoice. Vauxhall GAP insurance is designed to help with that difference, subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions and limits of the policy.

Why Use Insureworks To Arrange Vauxhall GAP Insurance

Insureworks arranges Vauxhall GAP cover underwritten by specialist insurers, and the eligibility rules are on the page rather than buried in a document. Your Vauxhall needs to be under ten years old, bought within the last 180 days, and invoiced between £5,000 and £125,000. Electric models are covered to £50,000 on PCP and cash purchases. We would rather you knew that before you started a quote than after. This page is information, not advice, and no assessment of whether the cover suits your circumstances is made here.

How Vauxhall GAP Insurance Works

  • Your Vauxhall is written off or stolen, and it is time to make a Vauxhall GAP insurance claim on the policy.
  • Your motor insurer pays the market value, which is what the car is worth today rather than what you paid for it.
  • If your Vauxhall GAP claim is accepted, GAP may top that up towards the agreed level, depending on the policy terms.
  • You get back on the road. The payout may help you replace the Vauxhall or clear the outstanding finance agreement.

My Porsche Taycan 4S GAP Insurance Claim

The Challenge In July 2023, I was involved in an accident that left my car a total write-off. The vehicle was just over 12 months old, and like most cars, it had already depreciated in value. The main insurer’s payout offer wouldn’t have even covered the outstanding finance. This would’ve left me with a nasty […]

Vauxhall GAP Insurance FAQs

We know you might have questions, here are the four we hear at Insureworks all the time.

GAP is not a legal requirement, but drivers often consider it when leasing. If a leased Vauxhall is written off or stolen, there may still be an amount due under the finance agreement after your motor insurer has paid out. GAP may help cover some or all of that shortfall, depending on the policy terms. Contract hire and lease agreements also have no electric vehicle price restriction.

Your Vauxhall needs to be no more than ten years old when you apply, bought within the last 180 days, with an invoice price between £5,000 and £125,000. Electric Vauxhalls are covered up to £50,000 on PCP and cash purchases. Cars previously written off, and vehicles on motor trade insurance, are not eligible. There is no mileage limit. Vehicles used as taxis, for driving lessons, hire, courier work, racing or off-road driving are also excluded.

No. Vauxhall is rated non-prestige by the underwriter, which is the lower of the two pricing tiers, so a Vauxhall costs less to cover than an equivalent Audi or BMW. The exception is electric models, which are rated separately and carry the £50,000 vehicle price limit on PCP and cash purchases.

If your Vauxhall is stolen or written off, GAP insurance may help cover some or all of the difference between your motor insurer’s payout and what you originally paid, or what you still owe on finance. What applies to you is set by the policy terms and the claim limit shown in your schedule, so both are worth reading before you buy. If your motor insurer does not settle the claim, the GAP policy will not pay out either.
