What is the difference between GAP RTI Basic and GAP RTI Plus?

The Basic policy is the cheaper no frills option to the Plus policy, which has additional benefits. In each case, the policy conditions are the same and are listed below; however, the policy benefits will differ, and these are explained in the following.

In either case, you have the option to choose New vehicle rates or Used Vehicle rates. Vehicles with less than 200 miles on the odometer at the time of policy purchase must have the New Vehicle rates selected, and those with 200 or more miles on the odometer at time of policy purchase must have the Used Vehicle rates selected. The used vehicle rates are cheaper than the new vehicle rates.

  • Policy cover: if the vehicle is written off (declared a total loss) during the GAP insurance period, either policy will cover the gap between what the main vehicle insurance pays and the original purchase price (invoice price including VAT unless the policyholder is VAT registered), or if the amount owed to settle the vehicle finance early is higher, this policy will cover that instead, (up to the maximum limit chosen), which includes your vehicle if owned privately, by a company, leased, or financed under Hire Purchase or Personal Contract Purchase agreement; however, it does not cover vehicles on Contract Hire.
In all cases, the maximum amount paid is restricted to the claim limit chosen by you and is shown in your Policy Schedule.
  • Vehicles covered : one of a car (seating no more than 7), taxi (seating no more than 10), motorbike, scooter, moped from a major manufacturer or light weight commercial vehicle not exceeding 3500kg gross vehicle weight. N.B. principal engine types covered and most main vehicles are covered but please see the policy wording for the specific types covered.
