What are My Responsibilities when taking a GAP policy out?

  • You must be insured by a fully comprehensive vehicle insurance policy from a registered UK insurer issued to you, in your name and valid for your motor vehicle.
  • The RTI and Vehicle Replacement GAP do not cover Vehicles on Contract Hire or Lease.
  • It’s your responsibility to take reasonable precautions to prevent accidents, theft, or damage to your vehicle.
  • Your policy can be transferred if there is a Total Loss and your motor insurance policy insurer replaces your motor vehicle with the same make, model, and specification. A new GAP policy will be issued free of charge; there is no administration or transfer fee required for this.
  • You can’t transfer your rights or benefits under this policy to someone else.
  • You must be honest with the insurer at all times, so you must not make false or exaggerated claims.
  • If you (or someone acting on your behalf) is dishonest or tries to make a false or exaggerated claim, the insurer may take serious actions, such as:
    • Terminating your policy,
    • Denying your claim and any future claims,
    • Keeping any premiums you’ve paid,
    • Cancelling other insurance products you have with them,
    • Sharing information about your actions with other organisations to prevent fraud,
    • Report fraud to the authorities.

Therefore, if something happens that’s different from the information you gave the insurer when you first got this policy, you must let us know (so that we can inform the administrator) otherwise, your cover may be voided due to fraud.
